Scala Data Centers anuncia investimento de R$ 3 bilhões no RS
A empresa de infraestrutura para centros de dados Scala Data Centers e o governo do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul assinam, nesta quarta-feira (11), um protocolo de intenções para a construção de um distrito industrial de “data centers” na região metropolitana de Porto Alegre (RS).
A Scala investirá R$ 3 bilhões, em dois anos, no distrito de centros de dados chamado “Scala AI City”, em Eldorado do Sul, a 17 quilômetros da capital gaúcha.
“Há uma vocação do Rio Grande do Sul para atender aos países do Cone Sul de maneira muito eficaz”, disse o presidente e cofundador da Scala Data Centers, Marcos Peigo, na manhã de hoje durante a cerimônia de anúncio do projeto, no Palácio Piratini, em Porto Alegre.
Peigo destacou ainda que “as condições climáticas também favorecem o resfriamento dos data centers” e uma menor dispersão da energia gerada.
O governador do Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, destacou a importância do projeto na recuperação das regiões afetadas pela tragédia das chuvas em maio.
“Após termos enfrentado uma calamidade, na qual as nuvens nos atemorizaram e trouxeram chuvas tão intensas, gerando desafios nos meses passados, esperamos que agora, a nuvem seja uma oportunidade”, disse Leite. “O anúncio de um investimento em um município que foi muito afetado pelas chuvas é muito importante”.
A primeira etapa do projeto entrará em operação em dois anos, com até 54 megawatts (MW) de capacidade efetiva de geração de energia para infraestrutura tecnológica. Nesta primeira fase, a empresa prevê gerar cerca de três mil empregos.
O distrito de “data centers” aproveita uma estrutura de geração de energia já existente em Eldorado, que conta com uma subestação local com capacidade de 1,7 gigawatt (GW), informou Peigo.
“Eldorado reúne características importantes de ser distante o suficiente para entregar uma capacidade de área construída e ter uma distância suficiente de Porto Alegre”, de forma a oferecer baixa latência de rede, explicou o executivo.
No início do evento, o executivo da Scala citou dados da agência internacional de energia (IEA, na sigla em inglês) projetando um crescimento anual composto de 33,1% no consumo de energia da América Latina com infraestrutura de tecnologia, entre 2024 a 2029 — de 974 gigawatts para mais de 4 terawatts (TW). “O Brasil tem vocação de geração de energia limpa e pode gerar essa energia para exportação”, disse Peigo.
O governador do Rio Grande do Sul destacou que o Estado buscará ampliar sua matriz energética renovável e que há projetos homologados de geração de energia eólica: “Temos 85% da geração de energia do Estado em base renovável”.
Em encontro com jornalistas após o anúncio, Leite sinalizou que a operação da Scala em Eldorado não terá incentivos fiscais.
Segundo o governador, o foco da administração pública será “em articulação acelerar processo de licenciamento da área como distrito industrial, que garanta as condições para a área toda do empreendimento e apoio de estrutura urbana”.
Em 14 de agosto deste ano a companhia inaugurou a segunda fase de expansão de suas operações em Tamboré, no município de Barueri (SP). O comando da Scala prevê um investimento de R$ 6,2 bilhões nesta segunda fase de expansão do Campus Tamboré, que vai até 2025, contemplando seis novos edifícios com capacidade total de 158 Megawatts (MW) e uma subestação privada de geração de energia de 60 Megawatts. Desta fase, dois edifícios entraram em operação em junho.
Neste ano, no Brasil, os investimentos em serviços de computação em nuvem devem alcançar R$ 8,4 bilhões, segundo projeção da consultoria IDC.
